As the Allies become increasingly confident that winning the war against Hitler is just a matter of time, the Psychological Warfare Department comes up with a plan to hasten the end and help to minimise losses by undermining enemy morale.

The ingenious scheme involves infiltrating fake mail into the German postal system. German mail trains are strafed by Allied bombers and sacks of forged mail dropped among the wreckage to be collected by the salvage teams who naturally assume it to be genuine. In this way German troops receive bogus letters from home alleging that wives and sweethearts are being unfaithful, that there is a home-based peace movement, and an organised anti-Nazi underground resistance at work within the Reich.

But Operation Cornflakes, so called because the letters are delivered to the unsuspecting recipients by their own friendly postman at breakfast time, is rumbled. What is more, the German agent who is in possession of information about the scheme manages to smuggle a letter into the fake mail bags destined for Berlin in which he gives the game away to the German authorities. The Allies discover this fact only after the incriminating letter has already been dropped over Germany. It is up to Martin Kane and his four-man squad to retrieve the situation and recover the letter.
