Steve Blake had heard plenty about the gold cache in Colorado Territory, and Steve liked gold. Not that he was a prospector, guns were the tools of his trade, but when he rode into Trail City gold was the purpose of his visit.

In town Steve soon came up against Ferrara. Oily and opulent, Ferrara owned half the town and was accustomed to running it to his own advantage. He had no liking for new faces and was quick to resent it when an out-of-town stranger began to ask questions.

But Steve was no ordinary stranger; when Steve asked a question he liked it to be answered - at the point of a gun if maybe. Mamie, Ferrara's torch singer, needed no such persuasion when Steve was around; though her loyalty was as changing as her affections, she was a smart girl and in the final showdown she came out of the deal a lot better off than the boss.
